Four Jamshedpur athletes to represent India at World Master Athletic Championship in Sweden

Jamshedpur, August 9: Four master athletes from Jamshedpur have been selected to represent India in the 25th World Master Athletic Championship, set to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from August 13 to August 25, 2024. The event will witness the participation of 8,000 athletes from 111 countries.

The selected athletes from Jamshedpur include one male and three female competitors, all chosen by the Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand based on their outstanding performances.

In the 50+ age category, SK Tomar will compete in the hammer throw and discus throw events. In the 60+ age category for women, Kavita Kumari will participate in the javelin throw. Charanjit Kaur will compete in the javelin throw in the 55+ age category, while Neetu Kumari will represent India in the 45+ age category for the 5000-meter race.

A ceremonial send-off event was held today, August 9, at the Red Carpet Office in Telco, Jamshedpur, to wish the athletes success in their upcoming competition. The event was attended by Regional Manager (Field and Sales) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited Jharkhand, Ghanshyam Mulwani, as the chief guest. Special guests included Executive Officers of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited Jharkhand, Saikat Day and Nitish Kumar.

The event also saw the presence of former international pole vaulter Gurdev Singh, former international cyclist and master athlete Avtar Singh, master athlete Mithilesh Kumar, President of the Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand Vijay Singh, and Secretary of the East Singhbhum Master Athletic Association Shyam Kumar Sharma. The dignitaries bid farewell to the athletes, offering them bouquets and best wishes for their performance.

President of the Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand, Vijay Singh, expressed confidence in the athletes’ abilities and wished them success in winning medals. The team will depart from Tatanagar to Delhi by train and then fly to Sweden for the championship.
