Giridih (IANS): The Giridih cyber police dismantled an online fraud network operating out of a hidden “control room” deep within the forest. Headed by SP Dr. Bimal Kumar, tactical teams raided makeshift hideouts in the Charanbari and Kothahariya forests under the Bengabad police station limits, arresting six operatives.
The Forest Strategy
The gang deliberately chose dense forest locations to evade police surveillance. By operating from these remote bases, the fraudsters maintained a long-distance watch on all approaching roads, allowing them to carry out large-scale siphoning operations undisturbed.
The arrested suspects include:
- Mahendra Kumar Mandal
- Krishna Kumar Mandal
- Ishwar Mandal
- Pankaj Kumar Mandal
- Ranjit Kumar Mandal
- Aditya Kumar Mandal
The APK Link Trap
Investigators revealed that the gang utilized sophisticated remote-access techniques to target victims across India. The suspects sent fake APK file links to unsuspecting mobile users via text or messaging apps. Once a victim clicked the link, the fraudsters gained complete remote access to the device, allowing them to drain bank accounts within minutes.
Seizures and Criminal Record
During the raid, police recovered:
- 11 mobile phones and 13 SIM cards.
- 5 motorcycles used to transport equipment and reach the forest hideouts.
SP Dr. Bimal Kumar confirmed that several of the arrested men are habitual offenders. Many had previously served time for cybercrimes in Delhi and other parts of Giridih. Upon their release, they regrouped and moved their “office” into the woods to hide from the law.
Police have now launched a comprehensive investigation into the gang’s financial transactions and bank accounts to trace their links to interstate cybercrime syndicates.
