Five East Singhbhum athletes in state outfit for national junior meet

AFI selects city’s Shyam Kumar Sharma as a commentator for Chhattisgarh fixture

Jamshedpur, Oct 28: Five athletes from East Singhbhum have found slots in the 62-member (boys and girls) Jharkhand outfit for the 37th National Junior Athletics Championships to be held at SAI Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, Assam from November 11 to 15.

The state squad was selected as per the standards of Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

The five athletes from East Singhbhum include Himanshu Kumar Singh (high jump, boys 14 age group), Anukaran Goswami (60 m run, boys 14 age group), I Sobhit (boys 18 age group, 800 m, Prakash Dehri (boys 20 age group, 200 m) and Amandeep kaur (girls 18 age group, high jump). Entries for all these athletes have been confirmed for the junior meet.

Selection of remaining athletes for the state outfit will be announced after trials to be conducted on October 29 at Birsa Stadium in Ranchi on Friday, according to East Singhbhum District Athletics Association (ESDAA) secretary Rabindra Nath Murmu.

“Athletes who have not completed the selection guidelines will attend the trials and, based on performance, will be selected for the state squad. Athletes who wish to attend the trials are requested to report at the venue before 10 am with identity card issued by the AFI,”Murmu added

Commentator: The AFI has selected steel city-based Shyam Kumar Sharma as a commentator (Hindi) for the  2nd National Opn (under-23) Athletics Championship to be held in Bilaspur Chhattisgarh between October 29 and 31. The national event is being jointly organised by AFI and  Chhattisgarh Athletics Association

Sharma, a resident of Telco is an experienced commentator who has operated in several national-level athletics events. He is a technical official, Ex-district sports convenor, sports teacher and a coach.
