Jamshedpur, May 14: In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder of loco pilot G.K. Gautam, the two prime accused—Rajkishore Singh and his son Ankit Singh—have surrendered before the court amid intensifying police pressure.
Following their surrender, police are preparing to seek their remand to interrogate them over the alleged murder conspiracy and identify others involved in the case.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that a long-standing land dispute was the primary motive behind the killing. According to police sources, tensions had been brewing for months between Gautam and the accused over a disputed plot of land in CP Tola, Bagbera, allegedly linked to a property transaction.
The simmering conflict is believed to have culminated in a meticulously planned murder.
The incident took place late on the night of April 26, 2026. Gautam, a native of Munger, Bihar, and employed as a loco pilot with the Railways, had arrived at Tatanagar station with a goods train from Kandra.
After completing his duty, he was walking towards the guard lobby when armed assailants, reportedly lying in wait near the lobby gate, opened fire on him.
Severely injured in the attack, Gautam was rushed to the Khasmahal Railway Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the murder, the victim’s wife, Reena Rani, lodged an FIR at Bagbera police station, naming Rajkishore Singh, Avinash Singh, and others as accused.
Police sources said more than a dozen suspects have already been questioned in connection with the case.
Investigators are hopeful that custodial interrogation of the surrendered accused will lead to the recovery of the murder weapon and expose the broader conspiracy behind the killing.
