Jamshedpur, Nov 15: A grim tragedy unfolded in Ranchi on Saturday morning after the bodies of two police bodyguards and a government driver—attached to the Principal District Judge of Jamshedpur—were recovered from Dhurwa Dam.
The deceased were identified as policemen Satyendra Kumar, Upendra Kumar Singh and government driver Robin Kumar, all of whom had been missing since late Friday night.
The incident surfaced around 6 am when locals spotted a white car submerged in the dam and alerted authorities.
Teams from Nagri police station reached the spot within minutes.
Divers and a JCB machine were deployed to pull out the severely damaged vehicle, inside which all three bodies were found.
Police also recovered two service weapons from the car.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle may have skidded into the dam due to over speeding or poor visibility at night.
The depth of the water is believed to have caused the car to sink rapidly, leaving no chance of escape. However, officials say they are examining every angle.
Police suspect that a fourth person may have been in the car, prompting an extended search operation in the dam, with divers continuing to comb the area.
Nagri police station officials confirmed that the bodies have been sent to RIMS for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Investigators are also probing why the policemen and the driver were in the dam area at such an hour—whether they were on official duty or there for personal reasons.
The shocking development has led to deep distress in the police ranks.
Senior officers are supervising the probe and have notified the families of the deceased.
Police said further clarity will emerge once post-mortem and forensic reports are available.
