Jamshedpur, Sept 1: A wild elephant killed a 35 year old man, identified as Rengta Hansda, in Jwalbhanga village of Chakulia police station area on Sunday.
Sources said the incident occurred when Hansda was returning home from a nearby shop on a bicycle. Just then the elephant came out of the forest and attacked him. On seeing the elephant, the man left the bicycle on the road and started running away. But unfortunate as he was, the elephant caught him by its trunk and threw him down on the hard road, killing him instantly.
Baharagora MLA Kunal Sarangi, BJP leader Sameer Mahanty and forest officials reached the village and inquired about the incident. Forest department gave Rs 25,000 in cash to the next of kin of the deceased.
