PM Modi assures faster justice as cabinet extends Fast Track Courts Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured faster justice after the Cabinet approved extending the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Fast Track Special Courts.
Writing on X, the Prime Minister highlighted that the decision will significantly reduce delays in the legal process.
The extended scheme carries a total financial outlay of Rs 3,788.04 crore to support its continued implementation nationwide.
The Central government will contribute Rs 2,353.15 crore for the initiative, sourcing its share directly from the Nirbhaya Fund.
State governments and Union Territories will jointly provide the remaining share of Rs 1,434.89 crore to maintain operations.
This extension expands the total network to 850 operational fast track special courts, scaling up from the current 779 functional courts.
Authorities will allocate new courts based on the pendency of rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act cases across districts.
Each court will appoint a dedicated Judicial Officer, an exclusive Special Public Prosecutor, and six supporting administrative staff members.
The scheme provides Central financial assistance to help states and Union Territories meet the daily operational expenditure of these special courts.
These measures aim to accelerate pending trials, deliver timely justice, and establish dedicated victim-centric court spaces across the country.
The Department of Justice will oversee implementation while coordinating with state governments, Union Territories, and High Courts.
Officials will monitor performance using the FTSC Dashboard alongside periodic progress reports, expenditure statements, and consultations.
Launched in October 2019 following legal amendments and Supreme Court directions, the scheme currently operates across 29 states and Union Territories.
Since inception, functional courts have successfully disposed of over four lakh cases involving sensitive offences.
This fresh five-year extension strengthens judicial capacity to deliver time-bound justice for women and children nationwide.
