Election season comes as blessings, rivals gifting Jharkhand with crores of projects

Jamshedpur , Oct 4: As the election season heats up, political competition in Jharkhand has reached a fever pitch, marked by a flurry of pre-election launches, promises and allegations between the ruling and opposition parties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has portrayed his connection with Jharkhand as deeply personal, framing issues like “roti, beti, and maati” as pivotal to the election agenda. However, this rhetoric stands in stark contrast to Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s claims that the Prime Minister has failed to address the core rights of Jharkhandis.

Soren has taken to social media, asserting that the state does not seek special status like other regions; rather, it demands its rightful share of resources and recognition. He believes the silence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on these pressing matters reflects a deliberate conspiracy to undermine Jharkhand’s rights. According to Soren, the BJP’s focus on corporate interests over those of indigenous people showcases a troubling prioritization that endangers the welfare of local residents.

Adding to the tension, Soren recently penned a letter to the Prime Minister demanding that Jharkhand be compensated Rs 1.36 lakh crore for dues owed by central coal companies. This demand is not merely a financial plea but a clarion call for the acknowledgment of the state’s unique position and contributions.

In response to these criticisms, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the ‘Dharti Aaba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’ on Gandhi Jayanti in Hazaribagh, pledging Rs 83,300 crore to uplift five crore tribal individuals across 63,000 villages. The scheme aims to establish a collaborative effort among 17 ministries to address various developmental challenges, including infrastructure, health, and education. With ambitious goals like electrifying 75,800 houses and building 1,380 kilometers of road, this initiative appears to be a significant commitment to tribal welfare.

Nevertheless, while the Prime Minister’s initiative signifies a step towards addressing tribal issues, skepticism remains among Jharkhandis regarding the sincerity and execution of these promises. The Chief Minister’s government is not sitting idle, inaugurating several schemes and promoting the Maiya Samman Yojana as a key policy move.

The upcoming elections will undoubtedly hinge on the performance of both the central and state governments in fulfilling their promises. The rivalry between the BJP and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) underscores a crucial moment in the state’s political landscape, where the true needs of Jharkhand’s people must not be overshadowed by political maneuvering. As the election agenda unfolds, it is imperative that genuine issues take precedence over mere rhetoric.
