ED Raid in Jamshedpur: Chief Engineer’s house raided

Jamshedpur, Feb 21: As part of its nationwide drive, the sleuths of the Enforcement Department on Tuesday also conducted raids on the premises of Chief Engineer of Rural Development Special division in Jamshedpur.

The raid was being conducted to ascertain disproportionate moveable and immovable property allegedly accumulated by Chief Engineer Birendra Kumar Ram. The searchers are being carried under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The team conducted raids in three places in the steel city including two residences in Mango and an official residence in the Circuit house area.

An eight-member team was involved in the process at Ram’s residence. Ram was at his residence when the team reached. In 2019, around two crores had been recovered from his place in the 2019 election. They looked for land papers, bank accounts and taking the jewellery in possession, the team started the investigation.

ED on Tuesday launched multiple searches in connection with a money laundering probe linked to alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s rural development department, official sources said.

The premises of a Jharkhand rural development department official and some entry operators (hawala dealers) and brokers are being covered, they said.
