East Singhbhum readies for free and fair Lok Sabha polls

Use C-Vigil app to report Model Code violation, appeals DC to voters

Jamshedpur, March 11: East Singhbhum district administration has pulled its socks to ensure a free and fair Lok Sabha elections at Jamshedpur Parliamentary seat.

As many as 16,70,371 people will be exercising their voting rights on 12th May. Out of these, there are 8,55, 831 male voters, 8,14, 481 female voters and 59 transgenders. This was announced on Monday by Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar in a press conference at Jamshedpur Collectorate. The DC was accompanied by SSP Anoop Birtharay and DDC B Maheshwari. During the meet, clips on C-Vigil app were shown to mediapersons and an appeal was made to disseminate awareness messages among the voters. Anyone who witnesses corrupt practice during elections or Model Code violation can upload a video of the same on the app and send it to the district administration. Prompt action would be taken by the administration, said the DC.

According to the DC, 13,745 people have been identified as Millennium voters as they were all born in the year 2000.

The DC further said that special Braille-compliant features have been incorporated in the EVMs to help visually challenged votes. A physical verification of all 1885 polling booths has been conducted by the district administration. As per the instructions of Election Commission of India, basic facilities like drinking water, electricity, toilet, furniture and ramps will be available at all polling booths. These facilities are being arranged in each and every polling booth in the district, said the DC.

Out of the 1885 booths, 1720 presently have ramp facility while 1870 have drinking water. Furniture are available in 1837 booths while 1810 have electricity. Signage is available at 1858 booths while toilets are there in 1857 booths altogether, said Kumar.

Many senior district administration officials including DRDA director, deputy Returning Officer, ADC and SDO Dhalbhum were also present at the press meet.
