Industrial gas infrastructure boost in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, April 10: The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) held a key meeting with officials of GAIL Gas Limited at its Gamharia office to discuss critical issues related to industrial gas supply, PNG connectivity, and network expansion.
Representing GAIL were DGM Anshuman Tigga, Industrial Operations Manager Rahul, and Ashutosh, while the SCCI delegation included President Manav Kedia, Industry Vice President Harsh Bankarewal, and Secretary Vinod Sharma.
The company informed that gas distribution infrastructure has already been developed in several phases of the Gamharia industrial area, including Phases II, IV, VI, and VII, along with parts of larger sector zones and areas near the auto cluster. In locations where the network is operational, new PNG connections are being provided within two to three months. Expansion into uncovered areas is being undertaken based on rising industrial demand.
GAIL Gas emphasized that its expansion strategy is demand-driven. While earlier phases saw limited uptake, increasing industrial requirements have now accelerated efforts, subject to land availability and regulatory compliance.
The discussion also addressed technical challenges in PNG usage, particularly the need for burner modifications and higher pressure requirements for processes like cutting and fabrication. The company noted that several units have already been connected successfully, with 15–20 applications currently under process.
Against the backdrop of global energy uncertainties, both sides highlighted the importance of developing a reliable local gas network to ensure uninterrupted industrial operations.
SCCI President Manav Kedia stressed that affordable and dependable gas supply is essential for industrial growth and urged faster expansion of the PNG network. He also called for practical technical solutions to enhance its industrial usability.
The meeting concluded with SCCI reiterating its support and urging GAIL to expedite expansion while addressing industry-specific needs.
