Jharkhand to provide 50 meritorious sportsperson job every year: Sports minister

‘AIFF to ink agreement with Jharkhand on domestic matches, international competitions’

Jamshedpur, September 1 : Jharkhand sports minister Hafizul Hassan on  Wednesday observed and encouraged the probables of the senior Indian women national camp for the Asian Football Championship,  currently underway at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur for 6 months from August 2021 to February 2022. 


The minister also saw the facilities being provided to the players by the state government. During this, he met the players in the hotel and inquired about their preparations. He also talked about providing all possible facilities from the side of the government. On this occasion, the Hon’ble Sports Minister apprised the press representatives about the vision and plans of the Government of Jharkhand regarding the development of sports and sportspersons by holding a press conference.

“30 players from different states participating in this camp, including two players from Jharkhand. It is a proud moment for us to host this national camp and we would like to assure of all support in preparation of the Indian national women team,” the minister said. 
He said that there is no dearth of sports talent in Jharkhand. In the recently concluded Olympic Games, Jharkhand’s daughters Nikki Pradhan, Salima Tete in hockey, while Deepika Kumari represented the country in archery and made the entire state proud. 
“The Chief Minister is very sensitive about the development of sports in the state and all possible efforts are being made for this. Work is being done to install astro turf track for hockey in Khunti, Simdega and Ranchi. At the same time, the state government is trying to promote sports in the Naxal-affected area, so that the youth join the mainstream.  The state government is working on a new sports policy, aiming to provide jobs to eligible sportspersons every year and there is also a plan to build stadiums in all the block headquarters. We aim to provide 50 meritorious sportsperson job every year. I wish the women football team to win the Asia Cup and all the upcoming tournaments,” Hassan said. 

Director of  Jharkhand sports department Zeeshan Qamar said that due to the efforts of Chief Minister, there was a successful agreement between Jharkhand Government and All India Football Federation (AIFF), after which the national women’s football team training camp is being hosted in Jamshedpur from August 16.
“The government is committed that the daughters of the state should be promoted not only in football but in all sports. The Sports Department is working on the vision of the chief minister towards the development of sports. It is our endeavor that by organizing such camps, local players will also get an opportunity to meet national level talent, which will greatly benefit the development of their sport,” the director said. 

AIFF deputy general secretary Abhishek Yadav said that the national women’s football team is camping for the Asian Championship to be held in the country from January 17, 2022. H
“Amidst challenges of Covid 19, it was necessary to organize the camp at the earliest to prepare for the tournament. We would like to thank the Jharkhand government,  for arranging very good facilities and along with steps to provide facilities as per Covid protocols. We would soon ink an agreement with Jharkhand government in terms of helping in conduct of domestic matches, improving skills of domestic players and even hosting of international matches,” said Yadav. 

Team coach Thomas Denebry said that the team’s preparation is going well, and efforts will be made to improve it in the remaining four-and-a-half months. All the players are very talented and working hard to prepare for the tournament. 

Team captain Loitombam Ashalata Devi said that it was nice to come to Jharkhand for the first time, good facilities have been provided by the government.

National women’s football team consists of 2 players from Jharkhand, 10 from Manipur, 2 from Delhi, 4 from Tamil Nadu, 3 from Haryana, 2 from Odisha, 2 from Railways, 2 from Goa, 1 from Punjab, 1 from Telangana and 1 player from SSB.
