Domuhani bridge expected to be operation before Durga puja

Jamshedpur, Sept.4 : If everything goes as planned the under constructed Domuhani bridge over Subernarekha linking Sonari in the steel city to Dobo in Chandil is expected to be partially operational before Puja. According to information, one lane of the bridge operational by September 20.

Executive engineer, road construction department’s (RCD) Jamshedpur division, Sanjay Kumar Singh said they are hopeful to start operation of the bridge before puja.

“The construction agency, M/s Royal Infratech Private Limited is working hard to complete the project on time,” said the executive engineer.

The carriageway of the bridge is 8.5 metres wide while the pedestrian pathway is 1.5 metres wide. Notably, the RCD secreteary Mast Ram Meena had in June instructed the construction agency to finish work of the left plank of the bridge by August 15.

The new bridge in river Subernarekha linking Sonari with Dobo in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district is being set up at a cost of Rs 41 crores. The foundation stone for the ambitious project was laid by chief minister Raghubar Das on March 13, leading the Kolkata-based construction agency, Royal Infratech Pvt Ltd to go ahead with the construction work.

The project assumes significance as the commissioning of the bridge by December 2017 would reduce to load of heavy traffic on city roads and in the process reduce traffic congestion and road mishaps on city arteries and also reduce travel time from Jamshedpur to Ranchi by nearly 40 minutes.

The 252-meter long four-lane bridge (dual-carriageway) with each carriageway of nearly 8.5 meters and pedestrian pathway on each flanks of 1.5 meters will have the Sonari side of the proposed bridge reaching out to Swarn Vihar and the Chandil side will connect to a village called Dobo.

From Dobo, an approach road (nearly 6 km) will be constructed which would will lead to Kanderbera(near Chandil) and then meet NH-33.

Once the bridge gets operational, the distance between Chandil from Jamshedpur will reduce by about 30 kms as the commuters will not have to go to Chandil — the route for going to Ranchi — via Dimna Chowk.

About 10,000 vehicles, including trucks, trailers and car move toward Chandil from Jamshedpur via Dimna Chowk on the NH-33 for the destination like Chandil, Chowka and Ranchi beside other places in Bihar.
