Over 450 young athletes showcase skills across six sports disciplines
Jamshedpur, Sept 19: The “Two-Day District Level Talent Selection Competition 2025” concluded successfully on Friday at the Tinplate Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Jharkhand, and the Sports Department of East Singhbhum district administration.
The competition aimed to identify promising players for admission to residential sports training centers, “Centers of Excellence,” and training facilities under the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS). These centers, operating in various districts, provide structured training and opportunities for talented athletes.

On the opening day, September 18, around 454 participants, including 284 boys and 170 girls, took part in football and archery trials. The second day, September 19, featured four sports—badminton, athletics, kabaddi, and wrestling—across two age categories: 10 to 14 years and 16 to 22 years. All athletes underwent a battery test followed by specific skill tests in their respective sports.
District Sports Officer Rupa Rani Tirkey said the event was crucial for spotting grassroots talent. “Those who qualify here will represent East Singhbhum in the State-Level Talent Selection Competition 2025 in Ranchi. From there, the best will be selected for residential training camps under the Jharkhand government,” she explained.

The successful conduct of the competition was supported by the East Singhbhum District Olympic Association, the District Health Department, and several technical officials. District Sports Coordinator Mahesh Tirkey, Ajay Kumar, Manish Jonko, Rishikesh Barik, Braj Kishore Ram, volleyball coach Suprabha Panda, and a large team of officials ensured smooth management of the event.
Sports announcer Shyam Kumar Sharma kept the participants and audience engaged, while the combined efforts of coaches and coordinators ensured fair and transparent selection.

The two-day event not only tested the skills of budding athletes but also paved the way for their future in competitive sports at the state and national levels.
