District excise unit seizes foreign liquor worth over Rs 1 lakh, one arrested

Jamshedpur, Aug. 16 : A joint team of East Singhbhum district excise unit and Sitaramdera police late night seized foreign liquor worth over Rs 1 lakh from an outlet in Oraon Basti in Sitaramdera.

Acting on a tip off,a team of excise unit along with Sitaramdera police, raided OraonBasti in Sitaramdera.

Assistant commissioner, excise Jamshedpur, Manoj Kumar said that they have been receiving reports about sale of foreign liquors in the densely populated urban slum. They directed the team for a joint raid in the locality. Rs 1 lakh foreign liquorhave been recovered.

Sources in the team, revealed that over 300 bottles of varying sizes of Indian make foreign liquor (IMFL) in 15 cases and five cases of beer (nearly 60 bottles) were recovered from the outlets and a 44-year-old resident of the locality, DurgaSahu was also nabbed.

�During the raid we arrested the person involved and forwarded him to Ghaghidih Central Jail. The liquors have labels from Haryana and we believe that it was brought from Haryana in containers in private vehicles by persons and distributed to different parts of the district through their network. We will continue such raids in other parts,� said a senior official of the excise department.

Incidentally, in May this year, police and excise department had seized 23 cartons of beers and Indian made foreign liquor worth over Rs 70,000 meant for sale in Haryana from a house in Bagbera on the outskirts of city.
