Choose your path with confidence, says RCCF Smitha Pankaj
Jamshedpur, March 20: International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory. Smitha Pankaj, Regional Chief Conservator of Forest, Singhbhum, attended as the chief guest.
In her address, she shared her experiences in the Indian Forest Service, a field often seen as unconventional for women. “Young women should come forward and choose the path of their calling,” she said. She also highlighted the importance of forests in controlling temperature rise and urged scientists to focus on sustainable mining practices.

Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, in his welcome address, emphasised that the organisation values the contribution of women and is committed to providing an environment where they can grow and excel. Dr. Ansu J. Kailath introduced the chief guest, while Jay Shankar Sharan delivered the vote of thanks. Female janitorial staff were also felicitated during the event.
The celebration featured cultural performances, games, and a fun and food fest. Homemade dishes prepared by members of the CSIR-NML community were showcased. Phulmani Purti and Mecho Sumbrui won the first prize, followed by Bidisha Nath in second place and Komal Thapa with Sanju Thapa in third. Puja Kumari Pan and Mrinal Aditya won in the games category.
The programme concluded the Women’s Day celebrations, which began earlier this month with a lecture on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013 delivered by advocate Mamta Singh.
