Jamshedpur : Deputy inspector general (DIG), Kolhan, on Wednesday held a meeting of senior police officers to review city’s law and order situation. The DIG, Sambhu Thakur scanned criminal cases police stationwise, arrest of anti-social elements and also reviewed the naxal activities in Ghatshila sub division.
During the two-hour-long meeting, Thakur took stock of the recent incidents of firing, loot and snatching in different locations of the steel city and also sought to know the police action against the criminals responsible for the crime.
The DIG, Kolhan said the law and order situation in the steel city is absolutely under control and if any shortcomings will be detected they will be taken care of by the senior superintendent of police Anoop T Mathew.
At the meeting which began at 1 pm, the DIG talked to the deputy superintendents of police and asked them to give an account of crime scenario in their concerned police stations area. The senior police officer also later talked to the senior superintendent of police, Anoop T Mathew and superintendent of police Prashant Anand and gave necessary directive to ensure the ensuing festival of lights to pass off peacefully.
Thakur, when asked, said that the law and order situation in the city is not that bad. But still the city police have to be more pro-active in stopping crimes like snatching, theft, loot and arms-peddling in the city.
“A number of firing incidents has taken place at few localities in the city in the recent past, but the police have also been succeeded to nab those involved in such incidents. The overall law and order situation in the city is not as bad,” said the DIG.
The senior police officer had also discussed about the vehicular traffic system in the city with senior SP, SP (city) and DSP (traffic) Vivekanand Thakur and asked them to continue the helmet-checking drive rigorously so as to curb fatal mishaps involving the two-wheeler riders.
The meeting was also attended by officers-in-charge of all the 18 police stations beside the DSPs.
Vehicular traffic, the major concern during the season will be under the administration�s scanner from this week as this issue is also an impediment in the way of organizing smooth festivals.
�Road accidents leading to blockading of streets is very common in the city so, to avoid such scenes during pujas the traffic police has worked out revised route chart for heavy vehicles movement that will be made public next week,� informed a district traffic official.
