Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner (DC) Karn Satyarthi conducted a surprise inspection of Kalyan Hospital in Banmakri village on Thursday to evaluate rural healthcare delivery. Operated by Vikas Bharati under the “Swasth Jharkhand, Sukhi Jharkhand” initiative, the 50-bed facility drew scrutiny for its low patient turnout and operational gaps.
Strengthening Medical Services
The Deputy Commissioner issued several strict mandates to the hospital management to improve efficiency and public trust:
-
Staffing & OPD: He ordered the guaranteed daily presence of both male and female doctors and directed the immediate enhancement of OPD services.
-
Infrastructure & Hygiene: The DC instructed the team to ensure functional tap water in all wards, maintain high sanitation standards, and complete pending residential quarters for medical staff.
-
Diagnostics & Supply: Management must strengthen laboratory facilities and maintain a consistent stock of essential medicines.
-
Public Awareness: The hospital must now clearly display all available medical services through prominent signage to assist rural patients.
Addressing Villagers’ Grievances
Following the hospital visit, DC Satyarthi held a Chaupal (community meeting) to listen to local concerns. Villagers highlighted several critical issues:
-
Water Crisis: Residents reported that the village’s only hand pump dries up in summer, leading the DC to call for a permanent water supply solution.
-
Infrastructure: The community requested the urgent construction of a 200-meter village road.
-
Elephant Menace: Villagers sought a long-term administrative strategy to manage recurring elephant incursions in the area.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Panchayat Secretary to document these issues and coordinate with relevant departments for timely resolution.
