DC asks corporate houses to help increase polling percentage

Jamshedpur: The deputy commissioner-cum-district returning officer of East Singhbhum Dr Amitabh Kaushal today held a meeting with representatives of various corporate houses in Jamshedpur in order to seek their cooperation in increasing the polling percentage in Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing the meeting, Dr Kaushal said the district administration had launched a campaign across East Singhbhum to achieve increased voting percentage in all the over-1600 polling booths in the constituency. He said the awareness drive was being run simultaneously in various parts of the district including rural and urban areas. Both rural and urban voters are being appealed to vote for sure, he said.

The DC said the relatively low voting percentage in urban areas as compared to the voting percentage in rural areas was a matter of concern and this is why the voter awareness campaign had been launched at such a large scale in the district.

Todays meeting was also attended by the sub divisional officer of Dhalbhum Prem Ranjan who informed about the steps being taken by the administration to make sure that voters come out in large numbers on 17th April.

District administration is organizing street-corner plays with the help of volunteers and NGOs in rural and urban parts of the district to create awareness among voters.

The DC had recently sought suggestions from the XLRI students for increasing voting percentage. The suggestions comprised those for wide media publicity for voters awareness and ensuring greater facility to voters at polling booths.
