DBMS student drowning: Medical board conducts post-mortem, 3 students detained

Jamshedpur, July 5: Under the vigil of medical board, post-mortem of Anshik Banerjee and Rajat Kamal was conducted at the MGM Medical College mortuary in Dimna. Sources said family members of Anshik had demanded the post-mortem to be conducted under a medical board to ensure the actual cause of death.

Meanwhile, Kadma police detained the three other students, who accompanied the drowning victims, under their custody at Kadma thana for interrogation. The police will release the three after the autopsy report that the deaths of Anshik and Rajat was due to drowning only.
The trio who were detained include Abhinav Sharma, a student of DBMS English School in which Anshik too used to study, Ankit Kumar, a student of Rajendra Vidyalaya and Swarnim Shiddharth, a student of DAV Public School, Bistupur.

The victim’s father Kamal Prasad Singh said that Rajat Kamal was a student of DAV NIT Adityapur. Rajat (18) was the only son who had done his 11th class from DAV Public School NIT, but later joined Loyola Inter-college. But due to some reason he went away in some school outside the city and had recently got his admission done in DAV NIT Adityapur.

Anshik’s father Durga Das Banerjee late last night confirmed the body that had been fished out from Subernarekha River on Tuesday afternoon was that of his son. He identified the body from the underwear.

Police had recovered two bodies of 17-year-old boys from Subernarekha River along Manikui under Chandil thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Meanwhile a class XI student of DBMS English School, Kadma had gone missing from the city since Monday afternoon. Anshik Banerjee, did not return home till late in the night on Monday. Sensing trouble his father Durga Das Banerjee, an employee of an industrial unit at Adityapur, lodged a missing report with the Kadma police station. According to information, Anshik a student of Commerce stream had not gone to the school on Monday and had instead gone for moving around at some place along with three of his classmates.
