DBMS Kadma High School students learn to unplug with ‘Digital Detox’ session

Jamshedpur, November 4: DBMS Kadma High School organized an awareness session on ‘Digital Detox’ for Grade 8 students at the school’s Kalakriti auditorium. The session, held in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West, aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of excessive use of mobile phones, social media, and other digital devices.

The keynote speakers included Dr. Sujata Mitra (Oncologist, M.T.M.H.), Dr. Rajiv Sharan (Paediatrician, Tata Motors Hospital), and Mr. Jha, a representative of the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West. They explained how prolonged screen time can negatively affect both mental and physical health, leading to problems such as eye strain, headaches, poor concentration, sleep disturbances, and reduced physical activity.

Dr. Sharan emphasized that overuse of social media can also lead to emotional issues such as low self-esteem, comparison with others, and loneliness. The speakers encouraged students to adopt healthy habits like taking regular digital breaks, spending time outdoors, reading books, engaging in sports, and interacting directly with family and friends.

Principal Gurpreet Bhamra advised students to use technology wisely and responsibly. “Digital tools are valuable for learning and creativity, but only when used in moderation,” she said, urging students not to let technology control their lives.

Rotary Club representative Mr. Jha highlighted the importance of becoming responsible digital citizens and maintaining a balance between virtual and real life.

DBMS Secretary Anita Ramakrishna and Joint Treasurer Aruna Ravi were also present at the event. The students actively participated in the session, showing great enthusiasm and asking several questions. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a meaningful step toward promoting mindful technology use among students.
