Jamshedpur: In yet another case of cyber fraud, criminals withdrew ₹25,000 from the bank account of Sangeeta Singh, a teacher at Rajendra Vidyalaya, Bistupur, through Pay Phone transactions. The fraud occurred in five installments, each amounting to ₹4,999, after she unknowingly shared her bank details while attempting to get a refund for an undelivered online order.
According to the FIR lodged at Bistupur Cyber Police Station, the victim, a resident of Mango Ulidih, Nagendra Lane, had placed an order for a cooker on Flipkart on February 19. However, after not receiving the product, she contacted the consumer care helpline seeking a refund. The scammers, posing as customer service representatives, tricked her into sharing her bank account details, claiming it was required to process the refund.
Shortly after providing the details, a total of ₹25,000 was withdrawn in five consecutive transactions using Pay Phone. Realizing she had been cheated, Sangeeta Singh immediately reported the matter to the Bistupur Cyber Police Station, where a case has been registered against unknown cyber criminals.
The cyber police have urged residents to remain cautious while sharing banking details online. They have reiterated that no e-commerce platform or bank ever asks for confidential information such as account details, OTPs, or UPI PINs over the phone.
Authorities have also advised victims of cyber fraud to report incidents immediately via the national cyber crime helpline (1930) or at the nearest cyber police station to increase the chances of recovering lost funds.
