Curtains come down on �Behind The Teacher�s Desk� at NML

Jamshedpur, July 7 : The valedictory function of the 8th edition of Behind The Teacher�s Desk (BTTD-2018) � two-day Students� seminar on metallurgy and materials engineering, organised jointly by The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Tata Steel Limited and CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) was concluded at NML Auditorium.

This students� seminar is being held at the CSIR-NML for the past seven years and has been a great success. Like previous years, this year also more than 80 students from 35 engineering colleges/institutes from different parts of the country were participated, and around 55 technical papers were presented in three parallel sessions.

The main idea behind IPS for Budding Metallurgical & Materials Engineers get a chance to showcase their innovation, technical aptitude and practical perspective in front of a panel of Industry and R&D experts.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Advisor Management, CSIR-NML welcomed the delegates and said about the responsibility of the engineers and their role to serve society to changes with time. Earlier it was making things economically without compromising the quality. Now the concepts of three P’s i.e. People, Planet and Profit are emerging.

N.K. Singh, DGM of Shree Cement, Kolkata and the Chief Guest of the valedictory function addressed the student participants. The solution to a problem lies within the problem statements, if a deeper insight is given to a real and practical situation of the problem. He said solving industrial problem required technical and commercial approach. The perfect solution may not always be correct for reason of cost, time, environmental impacts and so on.

Dr. A.N. Bhagat, Secretary, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter gave their remarks on two-day proceedings. He mentioned that the programme such as presentation, contest & industrial problem solving will have the students in developing their better future.

Ms. Minal Shah, Scientist & Co-Convenor, BTTD 2018, proposed the vote of thanks and expressed her sincere gratitude to the chief guest for sparing time and gracing the occasion. She thanked all the students and the members of the organising committee for their untiring effort in making the seminar a success. She also expressed her sincere thanks to advisory committee for their continuous support in the making the event a grand success.
