CSIR-NML Jamshedpur advocates for daily clean habits beyond Swachchhata Pakhwada

Jamshedpur: In alignment with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission, the CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, successfully observed Swachchhata Pakhwada – 2025from 1st to 15th May, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness, sustainability, and civic responsibility.

Under the leadership of Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, and coordinated by Dr. Sarmishtha Sagar, Chief Scientist, the fortnight-long campaign involved active participation from employees across campuses. The organizing team also included  Jay Shankar Sharan,  Viplave Vishal,  Pankaj Kumar,  Bhola Azad,  Biswajit Bhowmic,  Uday Bhaskar Rao, and several others.

During the valedictory ceremony, Dr. Chowdhury delivered the welcome address, stressing the long-term environmental and social benefits of Swachh Bharat initiatives. “Cleanliness and recycling are crucial for building a responsible society and securing the health of future generations,” he noted.

Event coordinator Dr. Sarmishtha Sagar provided a detailed overview of the activities held during the campaign, which included cleanliness drives, awareness sessions, and creative competitions. She emphasized the importance of integrating cleanliness into everyday routines beyond the 15-day observance.

Chief Guest  Dipankar Choudhary, IAS, Project Director, Integrated Tribal Development Agency, East Singhbhum, spoke on the transformative power of cleanliness at the workplace. He noted that “a clean environment not only improves hygiene but also fosters better productivity, morale, and professional discipline.”

A highlight of the event was the felicitation ceremonyfor winners of various contests such as essay writing, quizzes, extempore speeches, and art competitions. Prizes and certificates were distributed by dignitaries to acknowledge their contributions.

The ceremony also featured a cultural program, including a spirited dance performance by the Janitorial lady staff and a thought-provoking skit by CSIR-NML employees, both centered on themes of cleanliness, community engagement, and social responsibility.
