Jamshedpur: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will observe Awareness Month starting March 15 to mark World Consumer Rights Day 2025. The initiative aims to educate consumers about their rights, responsibilities, and the significance of product quality and safety.
As part of this campaign, BIS has planned various outreach programs, including consumer awareness sessions with self-help groups (SHGs), gram panchayat training for mukhiyas and sarpanch, and quality connect sessions for state government officials and academicians. Additionally, awareness programs for jewelers in uncovered districts and educational initiatives in schools and colleges will be conducted.
Highlighting the importance of consumer rights, Kunal Kumar, Director and Head of BIS Jamshedpur Branch Office, stated, “Consumers have the right to safety, education, choice, information, and grievance redressal. This initiative will empower them to make informed decisions and ensure they receive quality products.”
BIS Care App to Address Consumer Complaints
Kunal Kumar also urged consumers to use the BIS Care App to report any issues related to substandard products. “If a consumer receives a product that does not meet the prescribed standards, they can file a complaint through the BIS Care App. Our team takes immediate action by seizing the goods, conducting lab tests, and ensuring necessary corrective measures,” he said.
The BIS Care App allows consumers to verify the authenticity of hallmark jewellery and electronic goods. It also provides a direct platform for lodging complaints about counterfeit or low-quality products, ensuring prompt grievance redressal.
With this initiative, BIS aims to strengthen consumer protection mechanisms and promote awareness across different sections of society.
