Jamshedpur, May 3: In a move towards digitization, the Railways has announced setting up of a computerized parcel office at Tatanagar Railway Station. A new building will be constructed behind guard lobby in the railway station for this purpose.
Railway engineering department is preparing layout for the construction of the building, while the railway commerce and engineering department has done the site selection for the construction of the parcel office. Satyam Prakash, senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) of Chakradharpur Railway Division, said that parcel office will be constructed behind the guard lobby of platform No. 1 for which tender will be issued by the engineering department of the railway.
Currently, the parcel goods are seen scattered around which makes passengers suffer a lot and many a times passengers have been injured by these goods.
Tatanagar hosts a daily traffic of more than 35 pairs of passenger trains and thus witnesses a footfall of over 40,000.Once a new parcel office is ready these issues will be sorted out. After the new building is constructed the old building will be used for passengers� amenities.
During inspection of the railway station recently Navin Talwar, chairman of station improvement group and ADRM, had informed that the new parcel office will be ultramodern with all latest facilities and equipped with technology.
Full facility will also be available at the parcel office for the employees. Along with this the whole parcel office will be computerized. Meanwhile the currently functioning parcel office is computerized but the new office will be equipped with all the other facilities.
In a recently conducted survey by the railway ministry, Tatanagar railway station of Chakradharpur (CKP) division was ranked among the cleanest in eastern India.
Tatanagar station, an A1 category station of south eastern railway (SER), was ranked 19th out of 75 railways stations in the category across India and topped the list among SER railway stations, followed by Kharagpur at 50th and Howrah station at 59th.
