Commissioner and DIG begin probe into lynching incidents

Jamshedpur, May 25: A high level investigation team jointly led by the Commissioner of Kolhan Dr Pradip Kumar and the DIG of Police, Kolhan Range, Prabhat Kumar, here on Thursday paid a visit to Bagbera and Rajnagar to probe into the lynching of seven persons by irate mob on 18th May last.

It also went to Muslim Busti in Haldipokhar to which three of the four Muslim youths lynched in Rajnagar belonged.

The team visited Nagadih village of Bagbera and Shobhapur village of Rajnagar and saw the crime scenes where the lynching incidents took place. Three residents of Jugsalai were killed in Nagadih while four from Haldipokhar were killed in Shobhapur. In both cases, the victims were assaulted after being suspected as child-lifters following rumours reportedly spread through social media.

On reaching Haldipokhar, the Commissioner, the DIG and other officials met the family members of the deceased youths and sought information about the incident. The team sought detailed information about every single incident preceding and succeeding the lynching incident.

Its members talked to Sheikh Salim, brother of late Sheikh Halim, Imtiyaz Khan, brother of late Siraz Khan and Mohammad Sameel, brother of Mohammad Sajjad. They also talked to the Mukhiya of Haldipokhar West Panchayat Syed Zabiullah.

Asked about the probe, the Commissioner said it was likely to be completed in 10-12 days. He said the investigation would take into its purview every possible angle and that it would try to arrive at the root case leading to the mob frenzy and lynching of innocent people.

The district officials of East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan present during the investigation included DC Amit Kumar, DC Ramesh Gholap, SSP Anoop T Mathew, SP City Prashant Anand, SP Rakesh Bansal, SDO of Dhalbhum Manoj Kumar Ranjan, SDO of Seraikela Sandeep Kumar Dubey and DSP of Seraikela Pradip Kumar.
