Jamshedpur : College teachers from Kolhan and other universities under the banner of AIFUCTO (All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation) today skipped classes and participated in a dharna at New Delhi.
The teachers are demanding the clearing of the fifth and sixth pay commission, promotions and other issues in higher education. About 35 teachers from Kolhan University had left for New Delhi today and joined the dharna.
Vijay Kumar Piyush, chief patron, Teachers Association of Kolhan University said that the rally was called to safeguard the interests of colleagues their promotions and pension benefits.
Among the other demands, some are strengthening public institutions, to demand control of private educational institution, to oppose the amended rules of the UGC and the new pension scheme and democratization of management of educational institutions.
However, students faced problems as the first year under graduate students had their subsidiary examinations.
However, some college staff rued about the lack of teachers in colleges during examination. “As it is there are problems when there are examination. Managing so many students is difficult. We will try to do it though,” said one of the ad hoc teachers at Graduate College.
