CM honours Jharkhand martyr Nirmal Mahato on birth anniversary

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday paid glowing tributes to Veer Shaheed Nirmal Mahato on his birth anniversary, remembering him as a towering symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the Jharkhand statehood movement.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by wife and MLA Kalpana Soren, offered floral tributes at Mahato’s statue at Jail More in Ranchi.

The solemn ceremony witnessed a deep sense of reverence as leaders, supporters, and citizens gathered to honour one of the most prominent architects of the Jharkhand movement.

Later speaking to the media, Soren said the occasion held special significance as it marked the 75th birth anniversary of Nirmal Mahato, who devoted his life to the struggle for the rights, dignity, and identity of tribal and indigenous communities.

He said Mahato’s sacrifice continues to inspire generations and remains deeply etched in the collective memory of the people of Jharkhand.

“Every year, people across the state come together to remember his unparalleled contribution with respect and gratitude,” the Chief Minister said, adding that Mahato’s vision and commitment played an invaluable role in shaping the foundation of Jharkhand as a separate state.

Referring to Jharkhand’s journey since its formation, Soren noted that the state has now completed 25 years, and leaders like Nirmal Mahato remain a source of immense pride.

“His ideals, struggle, and vision continue to guide the state as it moves forward,” he said.

Recalling that Mahato was very young at the time of his martyrdom, Soren said the youth of Jharkhand see him as a role model and a guiding force.

He emphasized that Mahato’s life and sacrifice instil a strong sense of responsibility, courage, and pride among young people, motivating them to carry forward his thoughts and ideals.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the people of Jharkhand will continue to uphold Nirmal Mahato’s legacy and remain committed to the principles for which he laid down his life, ensuring that his dream of justice, equality, and self-respect for the people of Jharkhand lives on.
