Jamshedpur : Chitragupta Puja was celebrated with fervour in the different part of the city on Saturday.
At most of the places it was a “biradari bhoj” and prsasd distribution followed by cultural programmes which pulled the crowds on the occasion. At many places the idols of Lord Chitragupta were installed and the puja offered.
A large number of devotees gathered early in the morning for the puja. “Every year we organise puja here on a grand scale.
Although we don’t offer feast, we distribute prasad fruits and sweets from noon to late in the night,” said Raghunath Prasad Verma.
According to the Hindu mythology, after 11,000 years of meditation, Lord Brahma opened his eyes, he saw a man holding pen and ink-pot in his hands and a sword girdled to his waist.
The man asked Lord Brahma, by which name he will be known in the world? Lord Brahma replied, “You have been created from my body (Kaya), therefore, will thy progeny be known as the Kayasthas.
You have been conceived in my mind (Chitra) and in secrecy thy name will also be Chitragupta.”
