Jamshedpur: The Indian Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast indicating an intensification of chill across Jharkhand in the next two to three days. Currently, a noticeable decline in minimum temperatures is observed in most districts as clearing clouds contribute to the chilling trend.
In Ranchi, the minimum temperature dropped to 8.8 degrees Celsius today, reflecting the onset of colder weather. Simultaneously, Jamshedpur recorded a minimum temperature of 12.2 degrees Celsius, underscoring the cooling trend in the region.
Daltonganj experienced a dip in temperature, recording a minimum of 6.9 degrees Celsius, while the local observatory in Bokaro documented a minimum temperature of 9.1 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological analysis highlights the influence of jet stream winds, clocking in at 130-140 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level, prevailing over the plains of North India. This atmospheric phenomenon is contributing to the ongoing cold spell in the region.
Additionally, shallow to moderate fog has been witnessed at select locations across the state over the past 24 hours, adding to the wintry conditions. As the minimum temperatures continue to decrease, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe during this period of heightened chill.
In response to the plummeting temperatures and the onset of a cold wave, the district administration, under the guidance of District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, has implemented comprehensive measures. Bonfires have been strategically arranged at intersections, public spaces, and around the railway station to mitigate the impact of the cold wave.
Night shelters and shelter homes have been equipped with blankets, food, and essential amenities to provide a refuge for those in need. Manjunath Bhajantri has instructed officials to ensure the distribution of blankets to the poor and destitute individuals requiring assistance.
To prevent anyone from sleeping in open spaces, the district magistrate has directed officials to conduct regular inspections. Emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable populations, efforts are underway to shift individuals sleeping outdoors to designated night shelters. The district administration remains committed to safeguarding the community from the harsh effects of the cold wave.
