Jamshedpur, Nov 17: With the Jharkhand government applying brakes to the Chhat rituals of performing prayers at river, lake, pond and dam banks, the sale of water tubs and artificial swimming pools has become brisk with people opting for the next viable alternative of performing the Sandhya and Udayman Arghyas to the sun. the capacity of these tubs and artificial swimming pools range between 45 and 1,000 liters with prices ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 6,000.

Sakchi Market shop owner Ankit Sardar said, “I have smaller tubs priced at Rs 300 each. Other stores have 1,000 liters capacity artificial pools priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000.” Such stocks are available in varied and attractive colours that generate the ‘come hither’ look.

Shopkeepers informed that their stocks of tubs and pools were brought in during summer and those that were being sold as Chhat exigencies in view of the state government’s Chhat protocols, are the left over stock. Trying to make hay while the sun shines, many shop keepers have put in orders for supplies of water tubs and artificial swimming pools. Mango resident Ram Pravesh said that if the state government did not revise the Chhat norms then devotees would have no other alternative but to go in for the tubs and pools from the markets. He said that the water tubs and inflatable swimming pools could be folded and comfortably stored after use. He said that these artificial water containers could be put to good use during the summer months.
