Hemant Soren set to return as Jharkhand Chief Minister
Ranchi, July 3: Jharkhand is poised for a change in leadership as Champai Soren submitted his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday. The ruling coalition has decided to reinstate former Chief Minister Hemant Soren to the top post.
The decision came after a crucial meeting of the ruling party MLAs at the Chief Minister’s residence, attended by representatives from the JMM, Congress, and RJD. Following the meeting, Champai Soren, accompanied by Hemant Soren and other coalition leaders, met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan to tender his resignation and stake claim to form a new government.
Hemant Soren, who had resigned on January 31, 2024, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam, is now set to return as the state’s Chief Minister. Champai Soren, who took oath as the 12th CM on February 2, 2024, served a brief tenure of just over four months.
Congress MLA Pradeep Yadav confirmed the coalition’s decision, stating, “We have chosen our new leader.” Another Congress legislator, Irfan Ansari, added that Hemant Soren would indeed become the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
This transition marks a swift turnaround in Jharkhand’s political landscape, with the ruling alliance opting to bring back its former leader to the helm of state affairs.
