Ranchi, April 20: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Sunday reiterated his resolve to protect tribal identity and existence by paying obeisance at Dishom Jaher Garh in Chakulia.
He clearly said that those who have abandoned their traditional faith and nature-worshipping culture should not get the benefit of tribal reservation provided by the constitution.
Champai said, “We tribals are nature worshippers—trees, mountains and water sources are our deities. When people turn to the church after conversion, who will take care of our traditional places—Jaherthan, Sarna Sthal, Deshauli? If this continues, one day our existence will end.”
He stressed that tribal culture is not limited to worship system only, but it is a holistic lifestyle. All socio-cultural processes from birth to death take place under the supervision of traditional religious leaders like Manjhi, Pargana, Pahan, Manki-Munda and Padha Raja.
“But after conversion, people turn to the church for all these rituals, where there is no place for Marang Buru or Sing Bonga. On this occasion, Champai Soren appealed to the society to stay connected to their roots and be vigilant to protect their rights and identity.
