Seraikela, Feb 27: State tribal welfare and transport minister Champai Soren laid the foundation stone of Tilla dam renovation project in Itagarh panchayat of Gamharia block in Seraikela-Kharsawan on Sunday. He said the dam renovation work would cost the state exchequer Rs 43.32 lakh. He said the project would greatly benefit the farmers of Tilla and adjoining villages. The villagers had long been demanding renovation of the pond and the dam upon it, he said.
Local villagers expressed joy over the government decision to renovate the dam. They said they had to face difficulty in the summer season as the pond dries completely with the soaring mercury. Even the animals are deprived of water, they said.
District JMM president Dr Shubhendu Mahato thanked the minister for giving nod to the project. He said it was the state government’s top priority to provide irrigation facility to all farmers of Jharkhand.
A large number of party workers were present on this occasion.
