Chaibasa painter Vishwanath grabs eyeballs with exquisite canvas

Chaibasa, Oct 6: Six prominent painters from Jharkhand presented their masterpieces during an art camp organized by the ministry of Arts, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports at Ranchi�s Audrey House between October 2 and 6 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. Among the six master painters of the state who were invited to the art camp was Chaibasa Station Road resident Vishwanath Lakra whose on-the-spot paintings evoked critical interest among visitors and connoisseurs. His painting depicting Mahatma Gandhi�s love and compassion for animals grabbed eyeballs of visitors who ran out of words of appreciation for the artist.

Vishwanath Lakra is the receipient of several national and state recognitions and awards for his paintings. He was selected by the British Council for a tour of England in 2008. He was the recipient of the Chief minister�s Award in 2007 and was selected as a member of the national jury for National Award in Painting in 2015. Vishwanath Lakra�s paintings have been exhibited in Italy, UK and in Indian cities of Bengaluru, Delhi, Patna, Goa, Ranchi, Guwahati, Lucknow, Amritsar to name a few.
