Chaibasa hosts Tasar Silk Agriculture Fair 2023 

 

Minister and MP commend efforts of Tasar producers and scientists in Saranda region

Chaibasa, Oct 10: The Agarapariyojana Kendra  -Silk Complex in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum , hosted the Tasar Silk Agriculture Fair-2023.

The event, organized as part of the platinum jubilee year celebrations of the Central Silk Board by the Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi, welcomed guests, including Minister of Women, Child Development and Social Security Department, Joba Majhi and Singhbhum MP Geeta Koda.

The dignitaries paid a visit to the Cocoon Bank Room at the Agra Project Center, gaining insights into the ongoing activities. A symbolic tree planting ceremony, aimed at environmental protection and support for silkworm rearing, was also conducted.

During the event, it was informed that Jharkhand contributes 70% to the national silk production, with 40% of the state’s silk coming from the Kolhan-Saranda region. In recognition of their outstanding contributions, six Tasar farmers and Tasar scientists were honored with citations and mementos.

Minister Majhi commended the efforts of Tasar producers and the scientific community for making Saranda region a leader in national Tasar production. He highlighted the importance of research and collaboration between scientists and farmers in ensuring the exceptional quality of cocoons in the area.

Singhbhum MP Koda emphasized the significance of the event’s slogan, “Adivasi Ki Aas, Tasar Se Vikas” (Adivasi’s Hope, Development through Tasar), noting that Tasar production is predominantly associated with forest areas. She expressed pride in her roots being in Saranda and highlighted Tasar cultivation as a valuable contributor to environmental preservation and employment generation.

Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal spoke about the ongoing efforts to increase Tasar production through experiments and innovations. He encouraged Tasar producers to supply high-quality seeds to the Agrapariyojana Kendrae to benefit other Tasar growers. He emphasized the importance of making Tasar production more employment-oriented and called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders.

The Tasar Silk Agriculture Fair-2023 also saw the participation of Shruti Rajalakshmi, assistant collector, Dr. T. Selvakumar, director of Basic Tasar Silkworm Seed Organization, Dr. N.B Chaudhary, Director of Government, Ranchi, and other guests.
