Chaibasa celebrates Jharkhand Foundation Day with pomp

Chaibasa, Nov. 15: Thousands of students took out a march in Chaibasa to celebrate its 16th foundation day of Jharkhand at Gandhi Maidan here on Sunday. Before the march, Deputy Commsioner Abu Bucker Sidhique garlanded the statues of Birsa Munda and Mahtma Gandhi and thereafter flagged off the carnival march.

Addressing the large gathering on the occasion, the DC said that Jharkhand came into existence on November 15, 2000 and with the passage of time, now it is now being recognised as one of the fastest developing states of India. He added that in order to remain ahead of other states, Jharkhand has to do a lot in the field of education, health, basic amenities and infrastructure.

The DC mentioned that despite all the potential, Jharkhand lags behind due to two things and the people of the state have to give up those two things — handiya (rice brewed wine) and the dogma of witchcraft. He suggested the solution to these is education. Only promotion of education can eradicate the deep rooted dogma from the people’s mind. He asked the people present at the fete to help the villagers to send their children to school.

On the occasion, the deputy commissioner distributed 517 bicycles to Sahyikas (volunteers) of health department, certificates to appreciation to the teachers who conducted census. In addition, he presented forest land to the forest dwellers, and pump sets to farmers under various government schemes.

The government and non- government departments put up their stalls in Vikas Mella on the occasion. In the evening a beautiful cultural progamme was organised. The function was attended by all the district heads of government departments. The government offices in Chiabasa were illumined with colourful lights.
