CBI begins probe into illegal mining in Jharkhand

Ranchi: On the order of the Jharkhand High Court, the CBI investigation into the case related to the illegal mining of about Rs 1,000 crore in Sahibganj district of the state has started. Last Thursday, a seven-member team of CBI reached Sahibganj for preliminary investigation.

Let us tell you that the ED investigation of this case is already going on, in which more than a dozen accused have been arrested and sent to jail. Pankaj Mishra, representative of CM Hemant Soren’s assembly constituency, is among the accused in jail.

The Jharkhand High Court, while hearing the public interest litigation of a person named Vijay Hansada, had directed the CBI to investigate the matter. Vijay Hansada had told in his petition that he was threatened by Pankaj Mishra when he tried to stop illegal mining in Sahibganj. A ST/SC case was registered against him in Sahibganj police station as part of the conspiracy.

After which the court while ordering in this case has asked the CBI to investigate the conduct of both the accused and the petitioner. The CBI has been asked to submit the preliminary investigation report to the court within a month.
