Case registered against Tata zoo over leopard’s death

Jamshedpur, Sep 3: Forest department has registered a case against Tata Steel Zoological Park management in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in connection with the death of a male leopard on 21st August last. The case was lodged on the basis of a probe report prepared by the forest department, sources said.

Forest department had recently made the probe findings public and said that the leopard named ‘Mithun’ had died after drowning in flood water that had entered its enclosure on the night of 21st August last. It was said that no night guard was posted at the scene which was a low-lying area. A day before its death, the leopard was reportedly limping. It failed to save itself by climbing upon a tree when his enclosure was inundated, forest officials had said in the report.
