Brown sugar trafficking racket busted in Jamshedpur, 4 held

Jamshedpur, Dec 6: In a major breakthrough against illegal narcotics trade, Govindpur Police on Friday arrested four peddlers involved in brown sugar trafficking.

The police seized Rs 2,550 in cash, 81 packets of brown sugar and four mobile phones from their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Gaurav Kumar alias Amar (26) of Sheshnagar, Chhota Govindpur; Mohammed Imran (21) of Carriage Colony, Muslim Basti under Bistupur police station; Jambuwan Mahato (24) and Lalan Manjhi (28), both residents of Tamulia in Kapali, Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

The FIR was lodged based on the statement of Govindpur Police Station in-charge Pawan Kumar. Police had been receiving reports about increasing brown sugar trade in the area over the past few days. Acting swiftly, a special team was formed to monitor the situation closely. On Friday, following a tip-off, police conducted a raid and nabbed all four accused red-handed while they were preparing for the sale.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed that they had been actively supplying and distributing brown sugar for a long time. The police have also obtained crucial leads about the sources and suppliers from whom the narcotics were procured. Based on these inputs, the search for other members of the network has begun, and the police expect to crack down on the key masterminds soon.

Station In-charge Pawan Kumar said that the anti-narcotics drive will continue with full force and strict action will be taken against such illegal activities.

He urged residents to share information about individuals involved in drug trade so that the menace can be eradicated completely.

The crackdown has brought relief to the local community, who have appreciated the police’s proactive efforts.
