Jamshedpur, Feb 14: A robbery in broad daylight has created fear among the people of the city.
The robbery took place at around 11 am on Monday near Gajraj Mansion under Bistupur Police Station.

Sources said the daring crime took place around 11 am when the jewelry showroom staff just arrived at the gate of Gajraj Mansion to deposit the cash. Before they could enter the building which houses Canara Bank and several other offices, the culprits reportedly intercepted them and took them at gunpoint. The culprits hit Vijay on his head with the butt of a gun and also hit Pradyuman in his chest before looting the cash, sources said,

The looters snatched the cash bag from the hands of the victims and reportedly escaped towards G Town ground through the main road, sources said.

Senior police officials including SSP Tamil Vanan, SP City Subhash Chandra Jaat, DSP CCR Animesh Gupta and the officer in-charge of Bistpur police station Vishnu Raut reached the crime scene to investigate the crime. The SSP questioned the showroom staff about the incident and issued instructions to subordinate officials regarding tracking of the looters.

“The investigation has begun and we are working on the leads obtained so far. We will soon be arresting the looters very soon,” said the SSP.

Other senior police officials also questioned the two showroom staff separately to get lead on the looters. They also looked for CCTV camera footage obtained near the crime of scene for clue.

Cops suspect the major loot incident was well planned. The modus operandi involved in the incident makes it evident that the criminals were keeping an eye on the jewelry showroom staff regularly coming to the bank to deposit cash. The place of occurrence is usually crowded during the daytime and the locality is surrounded by shops, garages and an auto-rickshaw stand. This rules out the possibility of the incident being a random one, said an official.

Injured staff

Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Vijay Anand Moonka lashed out at the police administration. He said police had miserably failed in maintaining law and order.

“The law and order situation in the city has completely deteriorated. Criminals are committing loot in broad daylight. The administration is only busy checking helmets and seat belts while criminals are making hay under their nose after committing major crime,” Moonka said, adding further, ”Chamber will soon convene a meeting and decide the future course of action and if needed we will take to the streets and launch a massive protest.”

City residents feeling insecure from criminals: Modi

District BJP general secretary Anil Modi today condemned the incident of loot of Rs 32 lakh from the staff of a jewelry showroom at Bistupur. He said the crime graph of the city had gone up and such incidents showed the city in poor light.

“It seems the criminals have gained an upper hand over police. Rising incidents of loot and theft pose a question mark on policing. Unfortunately, the police department has limited its activities to checking helmets and seat belts,” said Modi.

The BJP functionary said the district administration appeared to have gone on the back foot when it came to securing law and order for the common man. He said the police department had barricaded almost the entire city roads for regular checking. Despite this, crime rate is far from going down, he said.

Criminals rule the roost in city: Amit Agrawal

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district president Amit Agrawal Monday said the banks and other financial institutions were not safe in the current times. Reacting to the incident of loot of Rs 32 lakh in Bistupur, he said the district police should ensure speedy arrest of the culprits and recovery of the looted money.

“Criminals have ridiculed police machinery by committing such a daring crime. This is condemnable since the citizens deserve a peaceful environment,” said Agrawal.
