Jamshedpur, Dec 25: The much-anticipated book ‘Vrihad Chhotanagpur ka Adi-Buniyad’ written by renowned advocate Sunil Kumar Guliaar was launched at the Devendra Seva Sangh in Sonari. The event saw a diverse gathering of distinguished individuals from Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and other regions, marking the importance of the book and its subject. Gundham Mutaruar and Mohini Mohan Mahato managed the stage, while Mahadev Dumriar set the tone with a soulful welcome song.
In his review of the book, Principal Bhootnath Mahato of Chas College highlighted the geographical and historical significance of the Greater Chhotanagpur region. He emphasized that the people of this area share a Gondwana heritage, with the Kudmi communities playing a crucial role in the development of agricultural civilization.
The program’s chairman, Mulakhunti Mulmanta Ajit Prasad Mahato, elaborated on the book’s exploration of key issues concerning the tribals of Greater Chhotanagpur, such as the 1941 census controversy, the ideological divide between Adivasi Mahasabha and Sanatan Adivasi Mahasabha, the Sarna religion, the Lokur Committee, and the role of the Kudmi script. He praised Guliaar’s work for presenting these complex subjects in a clear and concise manner.
Chief guest MP Bidyut Baran Mahato stated, “This book will guide our society in the right direction by addressing the issues we face, and it is a commendable effort to enlighten the Kudmi community.”
Several other dignitaries, including JAC member and Principal Arun Kumar Mahato, senior advocate from Ranchi High Court Haren Kumar Mahato, former MP Shailendra Mahato, and social workers like Dr. Vidya Bhushan Mahato, Dr. Vrindavan Dumriar, and Shashank Shekhar Mahato, shared their views on the book’s relevance and utility. They emphasized that it offers rational, research-based insights aimed at dispelling misconceptions and fostering a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural and social fabric.
The book, which is meticulously researched, is aimed at providing a foundational understanding of Greater Chhotanagpur’s historical and social dynamics. It will serve as an invaluable resource for social workers, political activists, advocates, students, and researchers involved in the study of Jharkhand, tribal cultures, and social issues.
Sunil Kumar Guliaar, who is also the central general secretary of the Adivasi Kudmi Samaj, continues to play a significant role in advocating for the rights and empowerment of the Kudmi community. His work is set to inspire future social movements and provide a powerful tool for those fighting for the rights and recognition of the people of Chhotanagpur.
The event was made successful through the efforts of key individuals such as Jiten Mahato, Ashok Punariar, and advocate Kulwinder Singh, who contributed to the smooth execution of the program.
