Jamshedpur, Feb. 21: Mystery surrounds the missing of a senior manager (credit) posted at Bank of Baroda’s Bank More branch in Dhanbad who went astray from here since Friday evening.
The officer Anil Bhagat (32) had been to the bank’s regional office at Bistupur on February 15 for credit rating and review of two Dhanbad-based companies since February 15. He was scheduled to complete his assignment at the bank’s regional office on Saturday, but he went missing from the city since Friday evening.
In this connection, the police have registered a station diary entry with the Bistupur police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by Neeraj Kumar, a senior officer of Bank of Baroda’s regional office on Saturday evening.
But, the matter came to light this morning when a team of bank officials from BoB’s Bistupur regional office went to the Bistupur police station seeking information about the missing official.
Regional manager of Bank of Baroda, N.D Jana said Anil had come to the regional office for getting the credit rating and review of two contract firms registered with Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Dhanbad.
“We are all in state of shock as there is no report of the missing officer. Anil had come to the regional office in Jamshedpur. He came on February 15 and worked at the regional office till February17. He came out of the bank at about 7.30 pm on February 17.
He was supposed to turn up again the next day (February 18), but as he did not come, we inquired about him. We not only inquired in his Bank More branch where he was posted, but also at his house in Dhanbad. When we did not get any information about him by the evening, one of our officers lodged a missing person report with the Bistupur police station on Saturday evening,” said Jana. He said the bike on which he had come was also traceless.
BoB officials said on February 15, when Anil came to Jamshedpur he had stayed in a hotel at Bistupur, but from the next day he stayed at the residence of one of the bank drivers in Gurudwara Bustee in Bistupur. The driver, Parida, was known to Anil.
Concerned about his missing, Anil’s elder brother Baidyanath Bhagat reached the steel city yesterday in search of his brother.
“We are all anxious as both of his cell-phones are switched off and he has not contacted his mother and wife,” said Bhagat.
Bhagat stated that a Bank of India’s ATM card which with Anil had been used at about 8 pm on Monday.
“The ATM card belonged to my mother as her pension comes to her account with the Bank of India’s Dhanbad branch. We have received a message of withdrawl of Rs 10,000 from my mother’s ATM,” Bhagat said.
OC, Bistupur, Shreenivas confirmed that they have received a missing person report lodged by a BoB’s officer on Saturday night and has tried to trace the senior manager of the bank.
“It is too early to comment but we have put the cell numbers of Anil Bhagat in the district police’s technical cell for finding the location. But as both the cell-phones are switched off, we have not been able to trace his location technically,” the officer-in-charge said.
Police have circulated the message regarding the disappearance of the office through wireless and also checked the railway stations, bus-stand and hospitals for getting any clue to the mysterious disappearance of the bank manager.
