BNMH organizes CME programme on stroke

Jamshedpur: The Department of Neurosciences at Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital today hosted a Continued Medical Education (CME) programme on �Management and Prevention of Stroke�.

The CME programme was presided by Dr. (Col.)S. Raul, Ms. Mch – Neurosurgery along with speaker Dr. N. Perwez, Consultant Neurosurgeon at Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital.

This CME program was organized to mark World Stroke Day, which is observed on 29th October. The CME was organized as a knowledge sharing platform aimed at providing in-depth awareness about ‘Stroke’ with case studies, its prevention and management.

The forum witnessed participation of General Practitioners from across Jamshedpur city and neighbouring districts of Jharkhand. The seminar was followed by an interactive Q&A session which helped participants understand and upgrade their clinical and medical knowledge about how to recognize stroke, to manage it during emergency situations, and also prevent it from recurring.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N. Perwez, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Jamshedpur, said, �Stroke is considered as a killer disease – a silent epidemic. Every year 1.54 per thousand people die from stroke in India.

This is due to lack of awareness about stroke and not taking necessary precautions. However, stroke is preventable and treatable. Traditionally, this disease was considered as a terminal illness with no treatment.

But with the advancement in the modern modalities of treatment and technology, there are ways to prevent and manage stroke.” He further added,” From the day of its inception six months back, the Department of Neurosciences at Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital has successfully treated over 100 patients suffering from stroke .�
