Jamshedpur, October 21: Growing discontent has surfaced within the BJP over the party’s recently announced list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, where many dedicated party workers have been sidelined. In response to this, BJP leader and social activist Shiv Shankar Singh, after meeting with distressed party members over the selection of Jamshedpur East’s candidate, announced on Monday that he will contest the elections as an independent candidate against Odisha Governor and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das’s daughter-in-law, Purnima Das.
In an emotional statement, Singh said, “In the Jamshedpur East assembly seat, a single family has misled the party leadership, causing immense pain among all the devoted workers. I am fighting for the dignity and respect of these party workers. This fight is not mine alone; it is a collective struggle where I am just the face, but the people of Jamshedpur East will fight this battle together against nepotism in politics.”
With fire and pain in his voice, Singh fiercely criticized the BJP’s decision to field Purnima Das as a candidate. “What merit does Purnima Das have to contest this election?” he questioned.
The rebel leader further asked, “Her only qualification is that she is the daughter-in-law of Raghubar Das. What has she done in social life? Does she even know which roads lead where in our area? Does she know the needs of our people?”
Singh’s frustration was palpable as he invoked the ideals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We stand against dynastic politics, yet here we are, seeing committed workers ignored in favor of family ties. Why is the party, which speaks out against dynasty politics, succumbing to the same pressure?”
He further added, “Had the party given a ticket to any regular member, we all would have stood united, as we have in the past. Politics begins with social service.”
“I have been serving selflessly for years, without any ambitions of my own,” Singh added.
Speaking to the media, Singh announced his plans to file his nomination on October 23 at noon, urging supporters to join him in large numbers. “This is not just my fight, it is a fight for the honor of every worker who has been overlooked and betrayed,” Singh said.
The meeting held at Cable Town was charged with emotion. Veteran leader from the Jan Sangh era, Ramrekha Singh, former district president of the BJP Mahila Morcha Rajpati Devi, former district general secretary of the BJP Minority Morcha Mohammad Wahid, president of the Mukhi Samaj Manoj Mukhi, social activist Sardar Romi Singh, Munna Agarwal, and a large number of workers and residents from Jamshedpur East were in attendance, vowing to stand behind Singh in this fight against family dominance.
