Jamshedpur, Oct 21: In the election held at the Press Club of Jamshedpur, Manoj Singh emerged victorious as the new president, defeating outgoing president Prashant Singh Putul by a significant margin. Singh secured 100 votes, while Putul garnered 60, and another candidate, Sandeep Savarn, managed to receive 16 votes. The elections, conducted using ballot papers, took place at Nirmal Bhawan in the Circuit House Area, with the results marking a major shift in the club’s leadership. Singh’s victory was confirmed after two votes were declared invalid due to technical issues, leaving a total of 176 valid votes for the presidential post.
Along with Singh’s win, Vinay Purti was elected as the general secretary, defeating his rival, outgoing general secretary Anjani Pandey, by a margin of 49 votes. Purti secured 96 votes, while Pandey obtained 47 votes, and a third candidate, Kanhai Hembram, received 34 votes. Additionally, Ajay Mahato won the position of treasurer, surpassing both outgoing treasurer Vidyasagar Singh and Abhishek Piyush. Mahato claimed 89 votes, while Singh got 45 and Piyush received 43 votes.
The election saw the participation of 178 members, though a few ballots were invalidated due to technical discrepancies. The entire process was conducted under the vigilant supervision of the Election Conducting Committee, chaired by Brajbhushan Singh, with support from committee members Anand Kumar, Devanand Singh, Arun Singh, Arindam Sinha, Kumud Jenamuni, Ajay Shankar, and Shashi Bhushan. Voting commenced early in the morning and concluded at 4 pm, following which the counting of votes began.
The district administration ensured the elections were held peacefully by deploying magistrates and police personnel. Once the counting process was completed and the winners declared, the election committee awarded certificates to the newly elected office bearers. The smooth conduct of the elections was appreciated by all, with the committee expressing gratitude to both the club members and the district authorities for maintaining order throughout the day.
