Bhaskar Bhat to address JRD Tata Oration at XLRI Jamshedpur today

Jamshedpur, Nov 18: Bhaskar Bhat, chairman, Tata SIA Airlines and director, Tata Sons Ltd will address the 30th Annual JRD Tata Oration on Business Ethics on November 19 at Tata Auditorium, XLRI. Xavier School of Management (XLRI) is organising its annual event on a grand scale this year.

XLRI, in association with a few select Tata Group Companies, established in 1991 the JRD Tata Foundation in Business Ethics, to espouse their long-standing commitment and contribution to business ethics in India. The foundation seeks to address itself by publicly affirming the urgent need for upholding ethics in all spheres of business and the need to bring about a suitably favorable culture in which it can thrive. JRD Tata, himself a role model par excellence, delivered the first oration in 1991.

An increasing number of organizations are realizing the importance of ethics in business in today’s world. Corporate Social Responsibility is the need of the times. XLRI is the first B-school in the country to introduce a core course on “Managerial Ethics” for both its HRM and BM programmes.    Each year, XLRI confers a medal on the best student in Managerial Ethics at the institute’s annual convocation.

Bhaskar Bhat began his career in 1978 as a Management Trainee at Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company. After spending five years with Godrej, he joined the Tata Group. After that, he was as- sociated with Titan Company Limited. He retired on 30th Septem- ber 2019, after serving as Managing Director of the Company from April 2002 to September 2019.

Titan Company Limited, under Bhaskar’s leadership, enlarged its portfolio and extended its market to Eyewear, Accessories, Fragrances and Sarees. The market cap of Titan Company grew to 13 Billion USD in 2019 and is now the second largest in the Tata Group.

Bhaskar is the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappali. He is associated with the Governance of the National Institute of Design. He is a Board Member of IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

He is also a Director in Tata Sons Private Limited, Titan Company, Trent and Caratlane Trading Private Limited and Chairman of the Board of Rallis India and Tata SIA (Vistara). He is also the Independent Director in Bosch India Ltd and Kansai Nero- lac Paints Limited.

He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras and completed his PGDBM from IIM Ahmedabad. He has been conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award at IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad.
