Bank employees in Jamshedpur on strike today

Jamshedpur, July 28: Bank employees in Jamshedpur along with 10 lakh bankers all over India will be on one-day strike on July 29, protesting IDBI privatisation and mergers of State Bank of India and its associate banks.

Banking operations will be impacted in Jamshedpur along with the whole of country as bankers of 40 private and state-run banks striking work in protest against the central government’s banking policies, a United forum of Banks Union leader on Thursday.

On the eve of the strike, United forum of Bank Unions (UBFU) and its nine constituent units: AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBW and NOBO held a massive demonstration before the State Bank of India, Jamshedpur Main branch in Bistupur were bank employees from East Singhbhum ,West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan participated.

A bank employees Sapan Das said, the strike is against the unwarranted banking reform measures.

He said the unions also opposed the decision to privatise IDBI Bank by reducing the government capital to less than 49 per cent, giving licences to corporate houses to start banks, ineffective steps to recover the bulging bad loans in the banks, and rather showering concessions to the defaulters and others.

“We demand that willful and deliberate defaulters should be declared as criminal offenders and punished,” he said.
