Bakrid Jamshedpur: Focus on social media, peace committee meeting held

Jamshedpur, July 5: In view of the festival of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha), the police are taking concrete steps to ensure peace in the city. Meetings are being held at police stations in various areas with Peace Committee members, religious heads, and prominent people. Police are being extra cautious following violence and arson in the past. A meeting of the Peace Committee was held at Parsudih Police Station on Tuesday.

The police officials have strengthened peace committees and have also carried out background verification of many of their suspicious members. Moreover, the police officials have also approached the elderly and prominent people of different localities to quell rumours and take their help in case of any untoward incident.

ADM (Law and Order) NK Lal motivated the people to celebrate the festival peacefully. He said that people should not pay heed to any rumours and must contact the local police at the time of need. He also informed that social media will also be put under scanner. 

 “Members of peace committees will provide all possible help to the police in quelling rumours and ensuring peace and order during the festival of Eid-ul-Azha. Officials are in regular contact with religious heads and have urged them to make regular appeals to community members to not give ear to rumours and inform police in case they come across any suspicious message on social media or if they find anyone inciting people, “an official said.

He informed that the senior police officials have been instructed to ask the local police stations to keep vigil while the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee, and Jugsalai municipality have been asked to ensure authorities that animal sacrifice is not carried out in public places.

The local police stations have also been directed to work along with peace committee members of different police stations to keep an eye on people spreading rumours and take steps to detain the said miscreants.

Pickets would be posted and round the clock patrolling would be done to maintain law and order, he said, adding peace committee meetings have been held with various communities, who have assured cooperation for the peaceful observance of the festival.

SSP M Tamil Vanan also instructed to conduct effective police picketing and snap checking on the exits and entrances of sensitive parts of the city and take important steps for police mobile, motorcycle, and on-foot patrolling to keep a close vigil on suspected elements.

Meanwhile, shoppers thronged city markets ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha festival, which will be celebrated next week. The sale of sacrificial animals and merchandise has gone up as the festival is coming closer.

The festival is marked by the sacrifice of animals like sheep or goats. The shopper’s rush to the city markets will continue over the next three days, and bakery shops are preparing for the increased sales ahead of the festival.
